Blood Elf Emote - Female Why does the scar appear in the movie?  Is it a real scar or is it the memory of something that happened to one he loved?  Is it made invisible by magic? Great job!

Well, Peter Jackson had once stated that it was supposed to be a demonstration of one of Tolkien's concepts regarding the elves - I forgot the actual name for it, but the idea is that their emotional and mental state can (and usually will) affect their physical being - sometimes very deeply. No doubt that Thranduil's recollection of that dragon attack he had faced (one that was almost certainly very traumatic) had caused his old wounds to temporarily resurface again.

This concept would also explain Arwen's almost succumbing to death after she falls into depression when faced with the thought of Aragorn's possible (and probable) death in LoTR.

Yeah, I think it's real scar, he can hide it using magic, but in some moments it becomes visible anyway...:sorry:

Thranduil was burned by a dragon. Smaug, if I'm correct.

It wasn't Smaug. It was a different dragon.
